Unity 7 to be released in 2027. Developers promised an easy transition from Unity 6

Unity Technologies unveiled the new game engine Unity 7 at the Unite Seoul conference in South Korea. Beta testing will begin in December, with a full release scheduled for the first quarter of 2027.

One of the main advantages of Unity 7 will be an easy transition from Unity 6, released in October 2024. The new engine is built on the same architecture, so developers will not have to reassemble projects or learn a new programming language. Unity also promises to minimize compatibility issues.

Unity 7 will feature CoreCLR as the standard scripting system. This should speed up Play Mode launch, shader compilation, and add support for domain reloading.

The engine will receive improved rendering technologies and AI-powered optimization tools. Among the new features is the Surface Cache GI global illumination system for more realistic lighting.

Unity will also add a new CLI, an open API, MCP support for connecting AI agents, and a Vector suite for creating web stores and managing product catalogs.

The announcement of Unity 7 followed shortly after the introduction of Unreal Engine 6. Unlike Epic's engine, which focuses on the new Verse language and abandoning Blueprints, Unity wants to maintain compatibility with developers' current projects.
