In July, Mojang Studios introduced a new blog dedicated to the future of Minecraft. The developers warned players that they had updated the minimum and recommended system requirements for the blocky sandbox.
They explained that the old requirements no longer reflected the needs of the current Minecraft:
Minecraft: Java Edition is over 17 years old, and it has grown a lot in that time! Worlds have gotten bigger, and the game has continued to evolve – with new features, technical improvements, and much more. But, like a teenager who has outgrown their shoes, Java Edition also needs space to continue growing.
Minimum system requirements for Minecraft: Java Edition (goal: 30 FPS 1080p, Fast preset):
- Operating system: Windows 10, 64-bit; Windows on ARM; macOS 12+
- CPU: Intel Core i3-10100, AMD Ryzen 3 3100, Qualcomm Snapdragon X, or Apple M1.
- GPU: GeForce GTX 950, Radeon RX 460, Intel Arc A310, Apple M1. Requires Vulkan 1.3 support and at least 2 GB of video memory.
- RAM: 8 GB (with discrete graphics card); 12 GB (with integrated GPU)
Recommended system requirements for Minecraft: Java Edition (goal: 60 FPS 1080p, Fancy preset):
- Operating system: Windows 11, 64-bit; macOS 14+
- CPU: Intel Core i5-12400, AMD Ryzen 5 5600, or Apple M2 Pro
- GPU: GeForce RTX 2060, Radeon RX 5600 XT, Intel Arc A580, Apple M2 Pro. Requires 6 GB of video memory.
- RAM: 16 GB
Developers no longer guarantee image quality and performance on hardware that does not meet the game's minimum system requirements.
