Microsoft to speed up game downloads on Xbox with new technology

News 0

Microsoft is testing a new feature for Xbox consoles that should reduce the download time for games and updates.

The solution uses an intelligent server selection system, thanks to which the console automatically connects to the fastest available download source.

For now, the innovation is available to Xbox Insider program participants from the Alpha Skip-Ahead ring. If testing is successful, the feature will be opened to other tester groups, and then released to all Xbox owners in one of the future system updates.

The mechanism works simply: after starting a game or update download, the console checks available servers, evaluates the connection speed to each of them, and selects the fastest one. The check is not performed only once – the system regularly repeats tests during the download and switches to a more productive server if necessary.

The new feature should help against the backdrop of the constantly growing size of modern games, which often exceeds 100 GB. Even a small increase in speed will reduce waiting times by tens of minutes, especially on the day of major updates.

Microsoft has not yet disclosed the release dates for the feature for all users.
