Indie studio Contrast Games announced the release date for the fantasy 2.5D Metroidvania Akatori. The game will be available on August 12, 2026, on PC via Steam, Xbox Series X/S, and PS5. The version for Switch 2 will be released in 2027.
The main character will be Maka, a teenage girl raised in the Temple of the Firebird. Together with a mysterious red bird trapped in a staff, she will embark on a journey to save worlds from the Amber Storms, which distort all living things.
Players can expect five unique worlds, over 20 types of regular enemies, challenging bosses, and exploration of locations using a staff that can be used as both a weapon and a tool for movement. The developers promise a combination of pixel graphics and 3D models, and the music will change depending on what is happening on the screen.
