Blizzard fired a World of Warcraft administrator - he cheated to help his friend's favorite streamer

The specialist gained notoriety and lost his job.

Recently, World of Warcraft fans noticed an oddity in the statistics of one of the runs in the Mythic+ dungeon "Zenas Nexus Node" (level 23). The combat logs indicated that some monsters and even the boss were killed instantly.

To clear the content, the spells "Death Zone (TRIAL)" — which allows destroying all enemies within a 30-meter radius; and "Touch of Death" — which instantly destroys targets, were used.

These options are available to developers, so players came to the conclusion that a World of Warcraft Game Master (administrator) was involved. They began to call for an investigation and punishment for those involved.

Now Blizzard Entertainment has released an official statement about the incident. The rule-breaker has been fired, and measures will be taken against the accounts of the participants in this run (at least one of them has already received a one-month ban):

We conducted an internal review and confirmed a recent incident in which a group in World of Warcraft gained an unfair advantage by abusing access to developer-only spells on a live server. Our tools confirmed what was also discussed in community discussions, and we thoroughly investigated this case.

One of the group members said during a stream that he asked his Game Master friend to help clear the dungeon. Streamer YaraByte was with him in this group.

According to World of Warcraft developers, this is an isolated incident:

We can confirm that this was the action of a single Blizzard employee who violated our Code of Conduct. This employee is no longer with the company — they were terminated immediately. We are also taking action against the accounts of players involved in this violation. […] We want to thank the WoW community members who shared information and expressed genuine concern for the integrity of the game, as well as fan sites working to remove the results of this run from their databases.
