Genshin Impact Fans Stole 46 Million Rubles in Russia - They Were Identified by Anime Pictures
The criminal scheme worked well, but at some point, something went wrong.
Recently, media outlets drew attention to a court decision in the case of a married couple. Reportedly, 23-year-old Nikita and 25-year-old Margarita, who changed their names to “Ni” and “Ma,” managed to steal a large sum from banks.
The couple worked in the credit department and used neural networks to implement their criminal scheme. The AI tool generated passport data for fictitious “clients,” and then real loans were issued based on them.
In total, the couple managed to steal 46 million rubles from banks. However, the scheme was uncovered when “anime pictures” began appearing in documents instead of photographs of fictitious clients.
The Telegram channel “Moskvach • Moscow News” notes that during the trial, the defendants used terms from the popular game Genshin Impact when communicating with the prosecutor and judge (journalists did not provide specific quotes).
Ultimately, the court found the couple guilty: Nikita received 7 years in a penal colony, and Margarita slightly less – 6 years.
Earlier, the Investigative Committee of Russia drew attention to game chats. According to the head of the department, gaming platforms and their built-in chats are increasingly becoming a tool for recruiting young people to participate in illegal activities.
