After Sony's announcement to cease physical game releases for PlayStation starting January 2028, players began to wonder if major releases in the coming years would receive boxed versions.
Final Fantasy VII Revelation director Naoki Hamaguchi stated in an interview that Square Enix is still determining its final publishing strategy. For this reason, the team is not yet ready to confirm the availability of a physical version, although the developers are working on creating some kind of boxed edition.
Hamaguchi noted that he sees the industry's trend towards digital distribution, but as a fan, he enjoys the culture of collector's editions.
Final Fantasy VII Revelation will be released before Sony's anticipated discontinuation of discs.
