Guillermo del Toro complained about the lack of checkpoints in Dead Cells and asked for a version for "older gamers" - the developers responded

13:58As it turned out, the popular roguelike Dead Cells also attracted the attention of the famous director Guillermo del Toro. In a conversation with IGN, he shared his impressions of the game.
The project by Motion Twin studio interested him, but the creator "just hates" the respawn mechanic:
Dead Cells seemed interesting to me, but I just hate respawns. You go through 35 levels, and then you start over; over time you go faster, but please, make a version without respawns — for older people, for older gamers. I am free: contact me and send it, please, I beg you. Because I like this world, it has great design.
A developer from Motion Twin humorously reacted to Guillermo's request:
We would officially like to add this moment to our personal "Cabinet of Curiosities" (a reference to Guillermo del Toro's Cabinet of Curiosities).
Then they added that Dead Cells has an assist option that the director should like:
It was a surprise and a true honor for us to learn that Mr. del Toro plays Dead Cells, and we can even help him right now: the game has an "Assist" mode! In this mode, you respawn at the beginning of the current biome or at the nearest checkpoint, instead of starting the entire run over. Thank you very much, Guillermo, for your kind words and for the time you dedicated to our game. We hope this small message helps you!
