GOG has long been more than just a store selling DRM-free games. The service's creators now also accept modders' projects.

In late July, they announced the release of an unofficial prequel to Fallout: New Vegas on GOG — the project "Fallout: New California" by the modding team Radian-Helix Media. It had been available for many years on other platforms, and now GOG service users can easily download it.

In Fallout: New California, players take on the role of a resident of Vault 18, located in the heart of the Californian Wasteland, high in the San Bernardino Mountains:

You will face the New Californian Republic under President Wendell Peterson, the Bishop family from the New Reno mafia, the remnants of the Shi clans, the Enclave's "Leonid" squadron, an army of super mutants, and the bloodthirsty Raider Alliance, united in the remote "Athens-Tec" uranium mine near I-15.

Fallout: New California features over 16,000 lines of dialogue and includes voice acting. The developers have prepared dozens of quests, and the estimated playtime ranges from 6-8 to 15-30 hours, depending on the playstyle. There are 13 endings.
