The Sims 4 marketplace will continue to receive new features and develop, said EAX Vice President Joseph Traverso in a LinkedIn post.
If EA continues to invest resources in The Sims 4, it could mean that The Sims 5 is not yet actively in development. Previously, each new installment in the series gradually became the main project after its release.
The Sims 4 is already over 10 years old and the game continues to receive updates, expansions, and new features. However, purchasing all content for the game in 2026 will cost players more than $1000, which causes controversy among the community.
The marketplace allows players to purchase user-generated content from creators, whom EA calls Makers. Creators are vetted by the company and can release their own packs, similar to modifications.
The store recently received a web version, which allows users to purchase content through a browser and use it in the game via EA App, Steam, and Epic Games.
Creators receive 30% of the in-game currency, Moola, spent on content. EA explains this by stating that it covers publishing costs and reinvests its share of revenue back into the community.
Some players believe that the marketplace turns free user-generated content into another source of microtransactions. EA has not yet revealed detailed plans for the further development of the store.
