inZOI fixed toddler interactions and announced changes to character behavior logic in public places

The game director of the life simulator inZOI published a diary and spoke about the developers' future plans. Kjun said that the team will continue to work on improving the autonomous behavior of Zoies (characters).

The creators of inZOI noticed that in some places, like a cafe or a bakery, characters could get distracted from their initial goal by other things, such as chatting with someone:

When Zoies came to places like cafes or bakeries, they often spent most of their time just wandering around, chatting with others, checking their phones, or going to the restroom, instead of actually doing what they came for. While such behavior helps them look more alive, it was observed so often that many players found it difficult to understand why they came to this place in the first place.

The developers decided to change the system so that Zoies primarily strive to fulfill the purpose of their visit. For example, if a character comes to a bakery, they will buy bread, perform the necessary actions, sit down and eat it, and then return home. Kjun clarified that sometimes short conversations or other unexpected situations may occur along the way.

Most of the characters' actions will be directly related to the main goal, and random actions, such as conversations, will occur less frequently: "Currently, we are aiming for approximately 90% goal-related actions and 10% random behavior."

The inZOI developers previously released a small update "v0.9.6", which aims to fix some gameplay mechanics and improve mod support:

  • Reduced the frequency of Zoies suddenly appearing right in front of you.
  • Fixed an issue where the route looked unnatural when moving to some locations.
  • Fixed an issue where it was sometimes impossible to interact with a toddler.
  • Fixed an issue where the "Buy" command did not work through the kiosk on the Business Lot.
  • Fixed a crash that occurred when deleting a mod project containing hair mods.
  • Optimized excessively heavy resources deployed in the Sample_Build mod.
