Square Enix once again reassured fans awaiting the conclusion of the Final Fantasy VII remake trilogy. In an interview with Automaton, game director Naoki Hamaguchi confirmed that Final Fantasy VII: Revelation will fully conclude the main story of Cloud and his companions.
According to Hamaguchi, the developers planned from the very beginning to make the third installment a complete finale. The game will not leave key questions unanswered, and the plot will not depend on future expansions.
This confirms previous statements from Square Enix that Final Fantasy VII: Revelation will have a single canonical ending without alternative finales or branching storylines.
However, the studio does not rule out releasing DLC after launch. If expansions are released, they will focus on new stories or secondary characters, similar to Intermission for Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade, and will not continue the main storyline.
It was previously reported that Square Enix is considering releasing at least one story expansion.
