Sony changed the game: PS5 earns the most despite a lack of exclusives

Despite reducing the number of exclusives to 13, PS5 brought Sony a record $136 billion in revenue thanks to game releases on other platforms, digital sales, and services.

Exclusive games have been one of PlayStation's main advantages for many years. However, with PS5, Sony's strategy has changed significantly: the company is releasing more and more projects on other platforms, and at the same time, the new generation has become the most profitable in the brand's history.

According to published data, PS5 currently has only 13 exclusive games. For comparison, PS4 had 58 such projects, PS3 had 180, PS2 had 514, and the first PlayStation had 454.

Journalist Colin Moriarty showed a slide from Sony's latest financial report, which demonstrates the company's changing approach to exclusives. Despite the reduction in the number of console-only games, PS5 is already being called the "most profitable generation."

The console brought Sony $136 billion in revenue, surpassing PS4 ($107 billion), PS3 ($71 billion), PS2 ($44 billion), and the first PlayStation ($24 billion).

Sony is now focusing on releasing games for PC, digital sales, services, and a large active user base.
