According to analyst Rhys Elliott from Alinea Analytics, the most successful release of July on PlayStation was Call of Duty: Black Ops 2. The game sold approximately 8.2 million copies on PS5 and PS4. Call of Duty: Black Ops also performed well, with about 3 million copies sold.
The situation with Halo: Campaign Evolved was much worse. On PS5, the game sold approximately 351,000 copies in July, and the total result on Sony consoles was about 452,000 copies sold and less than $28 million in revenue. For comparison, on Steam, the game was purchased by about 212,000 users, and on Xbox — about 900,000.
According to Elliott, the main problem was the price. He believes that $60 for a project that mainly updates the graphics of a 2001 game was too high a sum.
The analyst notes that the success of Call of Duty shows that high-quality and affordable classic games can earn more than many new releases. At the same time, brand recognition alone is no longer enough – price and an attractive offer for players are important.
