Sony has started placing an official warning about the transition to digital distribution on PS5 packaging.
Buyers have noticed that new batches of PS5 contain a message about the future of the platform. It states:
Important information: From January 2028, all new PlayStation games will only be available for purchase digitally – on the PlayStation Store and from retailers. Games released on disc before January 2028 can still be played on this console.
The message is printed on the boxes in several languages. Earlier, Sony told investors that it does not plan to reconsider the decision and has begun retraining employees at the Austrian factory, which had been producing discs for many years.
