Failure or Success? Netflix's FIFA Team Completely Disbanded

Refactor Games, the studio behind the official FIFA game for Netflix, has laid off all its employees just two months after its release.

FIFA World Cup: Launch Edition was released on June 11, 2026, exclusively on Netflix Games and was available to all subscribers of the service. However, the situation surrounding the developers indicates that the project did not gain much popularity.

Reviews were also weak. For example, a VGC reviewer gave the game 1 out of 5, noting poor graphics, weak AI opponents, and excessively low difficulty.

Former studio employees reported the layoffs. Designer Barclay Chantelle wrote:

The entire studio was laid off today, so if anyone is looking for talented people, I can connect you with some truly excellent specialists.

Another developer, Victor Del Castillo, suggested that the reason was the publisher Delphi Interactive's decision to completely cease funding for the project.

Meanwhile, Netflix considers the release of FIFA World Cup: Launch Edition a success and stated in its financial report that the game became one of the service's biggest gaming premieres.
