Recently, indie developer Jayjay-1992 recalled an unreleased project from Capcom's famous horror franchise. He decided to remake the demo version of the canceled Resident Evil for the Nintendo 64 console.

Jayjay-1992 said that this playable demo was shown at E3 2000 and the spring TGS 2000. In this early version, players were offered to control Rebecca Chambers as she explored the Ecliptic Express train: "Chaos already reigns on the train. You will meet a dying member of the S.T.A.R.S. Bravo team and first encounter Billy Coen, while horror unfolds around you."

The developer aimed to accurately recreate the atmosphere, layout, and key moments of that Resident Evil 0 prototype. To do this, he had to study archival materials:

Since no public ROM image of the N64 prototype exists, every background, fixed camera angle, enemy placement, and gameplay detail was meticulously reconstructed through extensive research. I studied old magazine previews, archived screenshots, videos from exhibition booths, and saved materials from long-gone websites. The goal was always, first and foremost, to preserve the legacy — to bring back this lost piece of Resident Evil history as accurately as possible for fans who never got to play it.

Developer Jayjay-1992 distributes the project "Resident evil 0 N64 - E3/TGS 2000 demo remake" via the itch.io service.
