Hexaghost is the Cursed Spirit of the Spire. Gameplay for this character is based on heat management. The Guardian is a Spire mechanism programmed to protect it. It can defend against danger on command. The Guardian offers complex gameplay based on card upgrades, mode changes, and energy.

The Hermit is a lonely immortal gunslinger from a distant land, haunted by the inescapable ghosts of the past. The Hermit completely changes the card positioning mechanics and adds unique interaction with curses. The heroes of the original board game are transformed into bosses standing in the gamer's way.

The ultimate goal changes from killing the Heart to defeating Nyau. In addition to a descent campaign instead of an ascent, "Downfall" adds components that easily integrate with the base game - transparent gem cards: a mechanic that allows players to overlay transparent cards on top of regular cards in protectors, enhancing and modifying them with new effects.
