Mass Effect 3 Creator Demanded Explanations from Writers - She Was Shocked by Characters' Romance Aboard the Normandy

Players in the Mass Effect franchise could build romantic relationships with various characters and unlock additional scenes. However, sometimes content can be unlocked by doing nothing — something one of the creators of Mass Effect 3 encountered.

Mass Effect 3 Lead Level Designer Kris Schoneberg is a Garrus fan. In a recent interview with GamesRadar+, she shared her impressions of a romantic scene she didn't expect to see — the surprise caught her during gameplay:

I am a Garrus fan through and through. You don't see it, but I have a whole Garrus altar here. And I loaded a save, ran around the Normandy trying to reproduce a bug I encountered. I open the door — and they are standing right in the doorway.

Then Kris stumbled upon a scene involving her beloved Garrus and another woman — Tali. This scenario is possible if the player doesn't romance either Tali or Garrus.

This secret rendezvous outraged Kris Schoneberg, and she demanded explanations from the game's writers:

I put down the controller, went straight to the writers' room and asked: “When? When did this happen?”. Very relatable. This is very, very relatable.
