Recently, the developers of the Battlefield 6 shooter removed several game modes, such as King of the Hill and Squad Deathmatch. Rush also disappeared from the list of available modes — this was the last straw for one community member.
A user under the nickname ExplorEverythingOnce was so upset by the loss of his favorite modes that he decided to request a refund from Valve:
I was upset when King of the Hill and Squad Deathmatch were removed from the game. However, I refuse to put up with the removal of Rush mode. This is the mode where I have played the most hours.
ExplorEverythingOnce said that he contacted Steam support — he believes that the developers who removed his favorite game modes do not deserve money:
I contacted Steam support and explained that several modes were removed from the game without warning almost a year after its release. I provided a link to the Battlefield website, which lists all modes available through matchmaking, and then to today's Community Broadcast post.
He then stated that he was able to successfully get a refund for Battlefield 6, allegedly because a Valve employee agreed with his point of view. At the same time, ExplorEverythingOnce claims that at the time of submitting the refund request, he had played 470 hours in the shooter:
The support employee I spoke with agreed that this was wrong, and therefore refunded me the full amount I paid for the Phantom Edition on release day. Battlefield Studios, you cannot remove the modes I play and still keep my money.
Valve has indeed sometimes expanded its refund program, but in this case, players were confused by the story and did not believe ExplorEverythingOnce. In response, he published "proof": he showed a fragment of a screenshot from his purchase history, where there was indeed an item about a refund for Battlefield 6. However, such an image was not considered convincing, as it is easy to fake.
The mention of "Rush" mode is still not removed from the promotional materials published on the Battlefield 6 page on Steam. This could be considered "false advertising," but it is still difficult to imagine that Valve expanded the refund program for this shooter because of this. Other community members who are also dissatisfied with the removal of several game modes have not yet reported their successful experience of getting a refund for the shooter.
