After 12 years, a mod about a modern US-China war for Company of Heroes is being removed from Steam - developers are unhappy with Valve's client updates
Developers can no longer distribute Modern Combat on Steam.
Recently, the creators of the global mod Modern Combat for the strategy game Company of Heroes addressed players on Steam. They announced that after many years, they "made the difficult decision" to remove their project from Valve's service.
The developers explained that this is due to "technical difficulties" that arose after Steam client updates:
Unfortunately, recent Steam client updates have introduced technical difficulties that prevent us from maintaining and ensuring proper distribution of the modification through Steam. Given these limitations, we can no longer offer "Modern Combat" on this platform at the level of quality we would like.
Modern Combat is a conversion mod that shifts events to modern times. Modders offer players to participate in a conflict between China (People's Liberation Army) and the USA:
This is modern warfare — deploy helicopters, infantry fighting vehicles, MLRS trucks. Fight the enemy with guided missiles, remote-controlled machine guns, automatic grenade launchers, suppressors, thermal imaging goggles, camouflage suits, laser designators, and much more.
The Modern Combat modification for Company of Heroes is expected to be removed in the "coming weeks." The project page is available at the following link.
The story of Modern Combat does not end there — the modification will still be available on ModDB.
