31 years later, a Donkey Kong Land remake has been released on PC, working without the original ROM

Recently, gamers remembered Donkey Kong Land (1995). The classic platformer got a second life thanks to a modder.

An unofficial remake of Donkey Kong Land has been released on PC. Players are offered to complete more than 30 full-sized levels. As the modder explained, this is a fan version of the original platformer, but with graphics, sound, and controls in the style of Donkey Kong Country.

Kasquez published the release trailer for the project "Donkey Kong Land Remake":

There's a catch: the fan remake of Donkey Kong Land does not require the original ROM files to run, i.e., game assets are included. This puts the project at risk, as it may be considered a copyright infringement. Some players fear that Nintendo's lawyers may shut down the project.

Another nuance is related to controls: Donkey Kong Land Remake is designed for keyboard play, but enthusiasts have already published instructions online on how to set it up for a controller (gamepad). For example, such instructions were presented by the author of the YouTube channel Jiggylookback.

The Donkey Kong Land Remake files are distributed by modder Kasquez via "Google Drive".
