Even Discs Couldn't Save It: Xbox Fixed Critical Game Launch Bug

News 0

A recent Microsoft infrastructure outage led to a problem where some Xbox owners could not launch games. The error even affected some physical disc copies.

Xbox Technical Director Scott Van Vliet explained that the issue arose after a system update. The service responsible for providing content on the home console and verifying Xbox Game Pass purchases stopped working. An additional bug in the Xbox software caused other license verification mechanisms to fail.

Microsoft took direct control of the problematic service and prepared a fix. Starting August 17, the update will become mandatory for console users.

Our engineering and operations teams are thoroughly analyzing the entire system to improve the reliability of our products and services.

The company also promises to release new system fixes and features in the coming weeks and months.
