Videos from the closed beta test of EA Sports FC 27 have leaked online, showcasing a new mode called The Grounds. It is intended to be a social hub for football fans, but the video has sparked a wave of ridicule and criticism.
The Grounds is an open hub where players control avatars, participate in matches, socialize, and access menus. Users immediately noticed similarities to PlayStation Home and the social spaces in the NBA 2K series. Many believe that instead of a simple menu, EA is forcing players to aimlessly wander through an empty and faceless location.
Most of the criticism was directed at the visual design and character animations. Players were particularly amused by the avatar's unnatural gait. In the comments, users also mocked the lack of advanced motion capture outside the field, outdated graphics, and uninspired design.
It is likely that the new mode significantly deviates from players' expectations, who primarily want a high-quality football simulator.
