Cloud Becomes a Pixel Hero: Square Enix Unveils Final Fantasy Resonance

Square Enix showcased Cloud Strife in the HD-2D style of the new Final Fantasy Resonance, a turn-based RPG based on Final Fantasy Brave Exvius, which will be released without microtransactions.

Square Enix is in an advanced stage of developing Final Fantasy Resonance and has shown Cloud Strife in the pixel art style of the new game. In the video, the hero battles a boss familiar to Final Fantasy VII fans.

Final Fantasy Resonance is based on the gameplay of the mobile Final Fantasy Brave Exvius. However, the game will be released without microtransactions and will feature a significantly larger world, content, and story. This is the first installment in the Final Fantasy series to use the HD-2D art style, known from Octopath Traveler.

The release is scheduled for October 22, 2026, on Switch 2, Switch, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. The game will feature a turn-based combat system.
