Recently, players remembered Command & Conquer: Red Alert 2 again. A native port for Apple devices – iPad and iPhone – has been released. However, this is not an official release from Electronic Arts, but an unofficial project made possible by the development of artificial intelligence technologies.
Developer Ammaar Reshi decided to use AI tools again to create a new version of the game. He explained that EA did not publish the source code for Red Alert 2, so he had nothing to “port.”
I used Fable 5 to port Command & Conquer: Red Alert 2 along with Yuri’s Revenge to iPhone and iPad! Electronic Arts never released the RA2 source code, so there was nothing to “port.” Gemini 3.6 Flash spent hours testing the game, and GPT-5.6 Sol re-implemented the AI for “Skirmish” mode.
The new version of Red Alert 2 was based on another fan project, “Chrono Divide” – a version of the game that Alexandru Ciucas recreated from scratch in TypeScript.
The developer said that AI played Red Alert 2 for a long time and helped him identify errors in the in-game AI's operation:
I connected to the project through a Chinese fork, so when I started working, the entire interface was in Chinese. Approximately 127 thousand lines of the game engine were not written by me. My personal contribution: a Swift/WKWebView shell, English translation of Yuri’s Revenge, touch screen controls, and AI created based on the Supalosa bot.
The project “RedAlert2-Mac-iOS-iPadPublic” is published open source on GitHub.
Earlier, modern technologies helped with the porting of another game in the franchise – this summer, Command & Conquer: Generals Zero Hour reached Apple devices. This is also a project by Ammaar Reshi.
