Xbox Elite Series 3 accidentally revealed: Player buys secret prototype by mistake
A player accidentally acquired an engineering prototype of the unannounced Xbox Elite Series 3 on eBay, which doesn't connect to the console and only blinks a red indicator light.
Microsoft seems to be preparing a new generation of its advanced controller. The Xbox Elite Series 3 has not yet been officially unveiled, but one player claims to have accidentally bought its prototype, thinking they were ordering an Xbox Elite Series 2.
Reddit user "ssuberlex" posted photos of the gamepad and asked if anyone had encountered the Xbox Elite Series 3. Commenters suggested it might be an engineering sample of Microsoft's new controller.
The device does not function as a regular gamepad. The owner said that the controller does not connect to the Xbox, neither wired nor wirelessly, and blinks a red light. This is likely a prototype for special developer accounts.
The first leaks of the Xbox Elite Series 3 appeared in May. According to rumors, the controller will feature Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth, a 3.5mm jack, a replaceable D-pad, paddles, trigger locks, and two adjusters. A new pairing button for switching between local and cloud modes was also reported.
Microsoft has not yet confirmed the existence of the Xbox Elite Series 3. An official announcement may take place at Gamescom.
