Starbreeze Entertainment is currently developing the third installment of the franchise, while Payday 2 is officially supported by modder-developers. August marks the 13th anniversary of the cooperative shooter, and a major technical update, "Update 247," has been prepared for this date.
The developers warned that with this update, they are discontinuing support for the old native Linux branch, as "it is no longer being developed and causes confusion for new Linux users." Now, Linux players must use Proton capabilities in Steam to continue playing.
The Diesel Engine v3.0 is now 64-bit, rendering is now performed using DirectX 11, and CPU utilization has been improved. In addition, a new resource compression system has been implemented — Payday 2 will take up "significantly less" space on storage and downloads will be faster.
The developers reported that Payday 2 will no longer "eat" the mouse cursor when switching between windows using the "Alt + Tab" key combination. They also fixed various bugs related to heists and more.
