There haven't been any new full-fledged Uncharted franchise games for a long time. Calls for Sony and Naughty Dog to make remasters or remakes sometimes arise, but not everyone supports this.
Recently, Benson Russell, the designer of the original Uncharted, participated in the FRVR podcast. During the conversation, the developer shared his thoughts – he considers a potential remake of Uncharted: Drake's Fortune to be a pointless project:
There's already a version you can play on modern consoles to get the exact same gameplay experience. What would be the point of re-releasing it? I just don't see the point in making a remake. You'd have to rewrite the entire story to make it better, and that means you're changing the spirit, the scenes, and everything that the original first game was.
Benson Russell explained that a remake of Uncharted: Drake's Fortune would require removing some scenes:
You'd have to add scenes or remove things, and also decide what to do with many key episodes – will you keep them? Will you have to redo them because they don't fit into your story?
According to the developer, it's better to "learn from Uncharted 4" and make a completely new game, with events set "in the past or somewhere else":
There's no point in a [Uncharted] remake. Honestly, I thought the same thing about The Last of Us Part I.
