In August, Unknown Worlds Entertainment studio returned to Subnautica 2. The developers addressed PC players on Steam and introduced an "experimental branch".
This is an optional version of the game that will allow players to get acquainted with updates for Subnautica 2 before their full release. The developers warned that saves from the "experimental branch" are incompatible with the main version of the game, so save files cannot be imported or exported.
Saves will be stored in different locations, so while the user is playing the experimental version, they will not see their main saves in the game.
The Unknown Worlds Entertainment team clarified that the experimental branch of Subnautica 2 will not be updated daily, as fans of previous installments of the franchise might expect. Updates are expected to be offered for testing shortly before their official release:
At the moment, our experimental branch will not be updated daily, as was the case with Subnautica and Below Zero. Builds will be released for previewing upcoming updates shortly before their release to all players. We may also use it to preview small patches and fixes between major updates.
