Marvel’s Wolverine will not allow players to control other characters. Senior Project Director Jess Reiner-Reed and Technical Director Mike Fitzgerald confirmed:
Wolverine is our only playable character.
A scene from the latest story trailer did not show Jean Grey being controlled. She only assists Logan in combat, including during joint attacks.
Fitzgerald stated:
There's definitely a team feel in that sense. But we really focused on Wolverine as the playable character and wanted to make sure we got that right.
Not everyone will like the decision. In a Reddit discussion, one user wrote:
Comparing Mary Jane's playability to Jean Grey's is insane.
Another compared Jean Grey to Jesse Faden from Control without a weapon:
The template is already there.
However, creating a separate playstyle for Jean Grey could have extended development time. Players would also likely have expected similar episodes with Mystique and Sabretooth.
