"Time to Sue Sony": Expert Cools Down Stop Killing Games Supporters

News 1

The Stop Killing Games movement, which emerged after The Crew servers were shut down, has encountered significant obstacles. Despite player support and the "Time to Sue Sony" campaign, experts doubt that the initiative will succeed in achieving legislative changes.

Gaming policy specialist Saile Pontin from Flux Digital Policy considers the players' demands legally complex. The main problem is that modern digital purchases are often viewed as a temporary license to access, rather than an acquisition of game ownership.

The situation is further complicated by the structure of modern games. According to Pontin, they combine many copyrighted objects: code, music, voice actors' voices, and graphics. Therefore, the demand to transfer discontinued games to the community or allow private servers creates serious legal barriers.

European authorities are discussing the issue of digital service termination, but publisher resistance and the complexity of legislation make a player victory unlikely.
