Malenia Becomes Muse for New Elden Ring Black Metal Album by Former Svalbard Vocalist

News 1

Former Svalbard vocalist Serena Cherry announced her second solo album under the name Noctule. The record is inspired by Elden Ring.

The album Extinguish Thy Flame will be released on September 25, 2026. Cherry wrote it after the breakup of the band Svalbard, which existed since 2011 and released four albums. Cherry had previously turned to games and recorded the black metal album Wretched Abyss, dedicated to Skyrim.

The first single from the new record, Lord Of Blood, became "an ode to the exalted horned demigod Mohg." The second track, Goddess Of Rot, is dedicated to Malenia – one of Elden Ring's bosses.

Cherry said:

In the struggle to protect those you love, you can be destroyed beyond recognition. When love turns into sacrifice, leading to inevitable loss. This is what my new song Goddess of Rot is about, but specifically, it is dedicated to Malenia.
I think the merciless world of Elden Ring and the harsh sound of extreme metal are made for each other. Metal is intense, ruthless, and uncompromising, just like Elden Ring. In my opinion, writing a metal album about Elden Ring was more than appropriate.
