Monkey Island Developer Rejects Publisher Offers for Complete Freedom

News 0

The creator of Monkey Island rejected publishers. Ron Gilbert decided not to involve a traditional publisher for the development of Thimbleweed Park 2. In his opinion, the proposed terms did not justify the loss of a significant portion of future revenue and the risks for a small team.

The sequel will be funded by a fan of the first part. He will invest just over $1 million, which should be enough for approximately two years of development and salaries for the entire team. The developers will also handle the release of the finished game themselves.

The release of Thimbleweed Park 2 is scheduled for early 2028. This approach will allow Gilbert to maintain more control over the project, although all responsibility for its success will remain with the small team.
