Bethesda Game Studios fulfilled its promise and released an update for Fallout 4 in August. As fans feared, this update broke modifications.
Now the developers have confirmed the release of an update for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition — it is scheduled to be released tomorrow:
On Thursday, August 20, we will release an update for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition, which will increase the storage volume for modifications on consoles and introduce additional improvements to the Creations system. Although this update should not affect the load order of modifications, as a precautionary measure, we recommend players to upload their saves if they haven't done so for a long time.
Some community members are happy that console versions will have more opportunities for mod enthusiasts. However, this update also has another side — modifications can "fall apart," which has already happened after other updates.
Some threaten to no longer buy games from Bethesda, asking them to stop and no longer release updates for old games. For example, GabrielWars stated:
Guys, stop releasing updates for old games, they add nothing but break mod collections. Skyrim and Fallout 4 don't need additional updates, what's broken is broken, leave the modding community alone.
Now fans of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition on PC are trying to prevent the update from downloading. Experienced mod enthusiasts share various recommendations, and some have already prepared — they have disabled all updates and made backups.
