Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Adapted for Modern PCs - Game Included in GOG Preservation Program

News 0

Ubisoft Entertainment never managed to release the remake of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. But fans of the franchise got something else.

Recently, the original Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time was included in GOG's classic game preservation program. Store representatives said that on modern systems, the game worked incorrectly due to peculiarities in physics and field of view implementation.

Developers created the game with a fixed frame rate and for 4:3 monitors, so playing on ultrawide screens caused problems:

On a 21:9 aspect ratio screen, so much vertical space is lost that the camera gets stuck at the Prince's waist. As a result, you play staring at the character's crotch.

To solve the problem of running Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time on modern systems, GOG used its own tools. The game received support for widescreen and ultrawide screens for all modern resolutions and aspect ratios; camera scaling is implemented, and through a special overlay, you can adjust FOV (field of view) and FPS limit.

The Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time page on GOG is available at the following link. Until August 23, a localization will be active; this version includes Russian language support (localization appeared back in 2019).
