Tracking Game Sales Will Become Harder: Xbox and EA Refuse to Share Data

News 0

Microsoft and Electronic Arts have stopped providing Circana with data on digital game sales in the US. For many years, the company has been publishing monthly reports on game and console sales, which are used by publishers, analysts, and the media.

As of July 2026, Microsoft is no longer participating in Circana's digital data sharing program. EA also recently withdrew from it – according to available information, this happened around the same time the company transitioned to new owners.

As a result, Circana's reports will no longer contain complete statistics on digital sales of Xbox Game Studios and Electronic Arts games. This includes major series like Call of Duty, and also makes it difficult to assess the performance of other publishers who do not disclose similar data.

Experts believe the situation could worsen. The industry is increasingly shifting towards digital sales, and other companies may also refuse to provide statistics. Then analysts and the media will have to rely more often on estimates, and publishers will gain more control over information about the performance of their games.
