PS5 overheating led to its abandonment at major tournaments. Players chose Xbox

Texas Showdown organizers abandoned PS5 for Street Fighter 6 competitions and chose Xbox Series X due to overheating and input lag issues with Sony's console.

Texas Showdown will take place in Houston from April 2–4, 2027. The main Street Fighter 6 competitions will be held exclusively on Xbox Series X with a Brook Wingman XB3 adapter.

According to Gfinity Esports, older PS5 models experience overheating, which can lead to additional input lag. Overheating of USB ports has also been recorded at major tournaments. At Evo Japan 2025, player RedDitto's USB cable melted during the Guilty Gear Strive final, requiring a controller change and console restart.

Esports player PunkDaGod, after his own problem, stated:

If tournaments continue to be held on this console, I personally will stop participating in them.

Evo organizers continue to use PS5, as Sony is one of the main organizers and sponsors of the tournaments.
