Recently, Parry Frames Studio announced the project Stray Dog: nobody cares. It's a game in the spirit of Dark Souls, and the protagonist is a stray hound (dog).
The head of the development studio gave an interview and spoke about the work on the project. During the conversation, he shared his observations on the gaming industry and outlined the current realities — marketing is often more important than the quality of the promoted product:
I have been observing the modern market and its ecosystem for some time. But I spent time studying the current market and its ecosystem. Since I also have to promote my own games, I have learned several important lessons along the way. And I believe that today's competition is not necessarily a competition of those with the best technical skills. Perhaps something else is ten times more important: whether players can even find you — whether they will see your game.
Initially, the developers wanted to make a project in the spirit of Slay the Spire, but there were problems with setting up the balance and game mechanics. After a series of unsuccessful experiments, the developers held a community vote — the majority of votes went to the concept of a game with a dog, based on memes around FromSoftware games.
The combat system of Stray Dog: nobody cares uses parrying and stealth. Known games Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice and Metal Gear became sources of inspiration for the developers:
The Chinese name itself is a pun on the name "Sekiro", in which the word "wolf" is replaced by "dog". Thus, Sekiro is one of the obvious sources of inspiration.
