Modders continue to support and develop the Heroes of Might and Magic III: Horn of the Abyss project. The fan-made mod-add-on for Heroes 3 recently received update 1.8.1. The authors stated that this release is mainly dedicated to bug fixes and balance adjustments:
In particular, having studied the experience of the first months of playing as Kronwerk, we introduced some visual and gameplay mechanics adjustments to the new city.
For fans of single-player gaming in the classic style, they have prepared a set of new maps of various difficulties: "Cursed Legions", "Noble Enemy", "In the Groves of the Mind", "Taming of the Shrew", and "To the Rescue!".
In addition, update 1.8.1 for HoMM III: Horn of the Abyss includes new templates for the random map generator (Conquest and Sapphire), as well as:
...expansion of map editor settings, new decor (with its use, the "Ice Onslaught" scenario has been refined), and a large number of event system fixes to the delight of those who have already mastered this powerful tool.
Modders said that the tutorial has been improved – now it will be easier for newcomers to get acquainted with Heroes 3 and master the basics. In the future, the authors plan to release more tutorial missions that will be dedicated to advanced mechanics and beyond.
The original version of Heroes 3 (1999), as well as the Heroes of Might and Magic III: Horn of the Abyss modification, are now available on PC via Steam. A full description of update 1.8.1 is available at the following link.
