Nvidia hasn't released DLSS 5 yet, but it's already been tested - results are mixed

Libraries of the unreleased DLSS 5 have leaked in NBA 2K27 files, and enthusiasts have already tested the technology in Control - detail has significantly increased, although RTX 5070 Ti performance in 4K dropped by half.

DLSS 5 is officially scheduled for release in the autumn. The main innovation will be neural rendering, which not only scales the image but also adds details missing from the original. In particular, the technology uses algorithms like Neural Radiance Fields (NeRF), capable of creating a spatial model based on ordinary 2D textures.

The RenoDX team gained access to DLSS 5 libraries and tested them in Control. The detail of Jesse Faden's face improved especially noticeably. However, the developers note extremely low performance: after enabling neural rendering, FPS on an RTX 5070 Ti in 4K drops by approximately 50%.

It was also found that DLSS 5 NR currently uses the same input data as regular DLSS, and the neural layer is applied last – after scaling and tone mapping. HDR is not currently working, so the technology will likely be changed before release.
