The Witcher franchise games about the adventures of Geralt of Rivia received many positive reviews, and fans were looking forward to a sequel. However, the new game turned out to be not what many expected.
The announcement trailer for The Witcher 4 caused a storm of indignation online — not everyone accepted the fact that instead of the familiar Geralt, Ciri would now be in the main role. Some were also confused by the appearance of the girl shown in the promo video.
In social networks, you can still find disputes about the choice of Ciri, posts criticizing CD Projekt RED's decision, and calls to reconsider and make a game about Geralt. Recently, the lead writer of The Witcher 4 noticed one such publication and decided to speak out.
Philipp Weber made a very unexpected statement in response to a post that the player "would like The Witcher 4 with GERALT, not Ciri." The writer also initially wanted to tell a story with Geralt in the main role, and therefore he understands the feelings of the franchise's fans:
I understand that many feel this way (I myself felt this way at the beginning [in the early stages of work]!), so our task is to show in The Witcher 4 that Ciri will be a worthy main character of the game. We take this task very seriously! Nevertheless, Geralt will always play an important role.
The Witcher 4 does not yet have a specific release date, but the release window is already known — 2028.
Currently, CD Projekt RED is developing not only The Witcher 4 but also a sequel to Cyberpunk 2077. In addition, together with Fool's Theory studio, they are preparing an expansion for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, which is called Songs of the Past — its release is expected next year.
