Recently, the MGLA studio published a new teaser for the game "War of the Worlds: Siberia" (or The War of the Worlds: Siberia in English localization). This time, the developers invite players to get acquainted with another important element of the environment that will help convey the atmosphere of the era.
According to the plot, predatory Martian machines invade Europe in 1896. In reality, in the 1890s, cash registers appeared in Russia, and one of them can be seen in this teaser.
The developers explained that such machines were installed in expensive restaurants and shops – they gave solidity to the establishment and acted as an "incorruptible cashier":
One of the first cash registers in Russia was installed by a Moscow store, which is now known as TSUM. This was a sign that large European-style retail outlets were appearing in the country, where strict accounting was needed. When payment was recorded, the well-known ringing of a bell sounded, a check was printed, and a cash drawer was extended. Such an "incorruptible cashier" not only prevented sellers from withholding money but also gave the establishment solidity.
The developers did not specify whether players will be able to interact with cash registers, or if it is just an element of the environment.
