GTA VI release could harm the economy - analysts assess prospects and warn employers

Some specialists have already taken leave, while others might simply start skipping work.

The release of Grand Theft Auto VI is expected in a few months. Some have been waiting for the game for over a decade, and its launch will be a massive event.

According to some, the release of Rockstar Games' new title could lead to tangible real economic damage. Potentially, it could amount to almost a billion dollars.

Analysts expect that "thousands of Americans," especially young men aged 18 to 30, will skip work and school to play Grand Theft Auto VI. It is evident that other regions may also experience absenteeism during the GTA VI release period.

It is assumed that the technology sector will be the most "affected" by the release of GTA VI. Widespread remote work may contribute to this: it is easier for many specialists to be absent from work – they can easily disconnect to play.

It is publicly known that at least one US Army campaign has been launched: extended contracts are rewarded with days off for the GTA VI release. Dozens of military personnel have already taken advantage of this offer. Some companies have also pre-approved days off in November.

Grand Theft Auto VI is scheduled for release on November 19 this year on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S consoles. Nothing has been reported yet about the PC version's release window.
