Bollywood's Barret and Cloud with Makeup: What DLSS 5 Does to Final Fantasy VII Rebirth

The unofficial version of NVIDIA DLSS 5 noticeably changes the appearance of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth characters, making Barret and Cloud look completely different.

DLSS 5 causes a lot of negative emotions due to how much AI interferes with the developers' artistic vision. Now the technology has been tested on a game with anime aesthetics, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth.

"Bollywood's Barret" – that's how players comment on Barret Wallace's appearance after applying DLSS 5.

"Artificial intelligence thinks Cloud is a girl," another YouTube user stated.

After the unofficial implementation of DLSS 5, the characters look quite strange. However, developers should have some control over how much the technology affects the image, which will allow them to partially preserve the original visual style.

Currently, DLSS 5 is only available in a limited form as a fan mod. In the future, the technology should be used not only for characters but also to "improve" the entire environment. Even now, the mod roughly halves the frame rate, and processing the entire game environment will require even more GPU resources.
