Hacker breaches creators of Hello Neighbor horror game and blackmails them - demands game be removed from sale
The creators of Secret Neighbor: Hello Neighbor Multiplayer have encountered an unexpected problem.
Over the past years, the creators have developed several projects based on the Hello Neighbor horror franchise, including an online game called Secret Neighbor: Hello Neighbor Multiplayer. This year, the developers faced a hacker.
Hologryph studio and publisher tinybuild Games recently addressed players and explained what happened. The attacker managed to delete user progress data and other important information:
Secret Neighbor has been attacked by an individual who managed to obtain administrator credentials to access our backend systems. With these credentials, the attacker was able to access and delete player profiles, progress data, and other in-game data, as well as launch a coordinated attack on our server systems and infrastructure across all platforms where Secret Neighbor is currently available.
The individual responsible for the attack on Secret Neighbor: Hello Neighbor Multiplayer then stated that they would continue to attack the game and servers until it is removed from sale on all platforms.
The developers have temporarily shut down the servers:
As this is a targeted attack on our game and our players, accompanied by direct blackmail, we are taking the situation extremely seriously. We have contacted the relevant authorities regarding this individual and are working with PlayFab to try and restore any deleted data.
The creators of Secret Neighbor: Hello Neighbor Multiplayer clarified that players' personal data was not leaked; the hacking attack only affected in-game profiles and progress.
