“The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Ballads of the Past” generated significant interest after its showing at gamescom 2026. CD Projekt RED and Fool’s Theory have not yet announced the exact release date for the expansion, which is expected in 2027.
Millennium DM analyst Grzegorz Gawkowski expects around 8.5 million copies sold in the first 12 months if released in Q2 2027. Trigon DM initially predicted 7.5 million, but after the announcement of a massive remaster, the estimate may be increased.
“I rate the showing of 'Ballads of the Past' at Gamescom very positively. We were shown a lot of specifics. A new region, quests, exploration, and battles, and the initial reactions from players were very good. [...] I assume the expansion will be released in Q2 2027 with sales of around 8.5 million copies in the first 12 months.”
Even more optimistic are the forecasts of Tomasz Rodak from Bank Ochrony Środowiska and Piotr Poniatowski from mBank – they expect 11 million copies sold in a year.
Analysts also consider the release of a free remaster of “The Witcher 3” a successful decision, which should attract new players and support the sales of the expansion.
