Recently, indie developer Raul Meza released the project Nurek (1982) on PC via Steam. It's a horror simulator about a diver who was kidnapped by a mysterious organization that intends to use him to search for ancient artifacts.
According to the plot, the events unfold in the 1980s: in the game's world, the communist government is obsessed with controlling the population, food supplies, and land and sea resources. During one expedition near a cave system hundreds of meters underwater, golden statues were discovered, and Operation "Nurek" was launched to investigate the find.
Initial investigations failed: "they led to personnel loss and caused environmental anomalies." However, the operation was not curtailed after this, and the search continued. Now, the kidnapped diver protagonist must go in search of ancient artifacts:
Upon waking, you will discover the only source of human contact and connection to the outside world: a government organization that, against your will, has brought you hundreds of meters underwater to an unknown location in the world. After receiving instructions, you will gain access to a hatch leading to a place few dare to tread – where you must complete your mission.
