The futuristic Battlefield 2142 has a strong fan community. The game is still supported by modders, and a major update for the unofficial remaster of the shooter was recently released.
In version v17, modders offer Battlefield 2142 players various graphics and effects enhancements. For example, they have reworked textures for landscapes, roads, static objects, and vehicles to "bring the game's visual style closer to modern standards." The font, HUD (interface), reticles, minimap, and menus have been improved and optimized for modern screens; and the minimap no longer stretches on 16:9 displays.
In addition, several maps and weapon models have been added to Battlefield 2142 — sniper rifles, machine guns, pistols, and more. The soldier equipment customization system has been expanded: each class now has 5 main weapon types (previously 3) and a slot for squad leader gadgets.
Also, players can now use the "underwater swimming" mechanic by holding Z to dive underwater to bypass enemies. Oxygen supply depends on armor weight.
The "BF2142 Project Remaster" modification for Battlefield 2142 by illicitSoul is distributed for free via Nexus Mods.
