Sony is preparing a major PS5 update - here's what will change

Sony is preparing a major PS5 system update, version 14.0. It will improve console stability, and on PS5 Pro, PSSR 2.0 technology will be enabled by default.

Sony has published patch notes for the upcoming system update for PS5 beta program participants. Firmware 14.0 for PS5 is already undergoing testing, and a public release is expected in late September. Currently, developers are focused on optimizing services and system stability.

The main new feature will be PSSR 2.0 on PS5 Pro. The upscaling technology will be active by default and will start working at the basic rendering level. The update should reduce image artifacts and geometry flickering. In some cases, improvements will work even without separate patches from game developers.

Sony will also change how wireless connectivity works. Completely disabling Bluetooth will prevent the PS5 from entering rest mode, and HDMI Link will stop working. This feature is primarily being prepared for esports tournaments, where a large number of controllers can cause interference.

The update will also improve interface performance and system stability. However, the final set of features may still change.
